Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry in which the teeth are placed into aesthetically and functionally satisfactory positon by proper use of forces. These forces can be transferred onto teeth with removable or fixed braces. Removable braces are those that the patient can remove by himself, while fixed braces, after the fitting of brackets, rings and arch wire, which attached to those elements puts pressure on the teeth, stays in the mouth until the end of treatment. Which type of braces will be used depends on the age of the patient and the indication. Children with mixed dentition (presence of both deciduous and permanent teeth in the mouth) will wear removable braces, while older children and adults will wear fixed braces. Our orthodontist, Zoran Čeovič, DMD, emphasizes that it is important to have the first orthodontic check-up between the ages of 7 and 9.
